The pump and filter package system shown above keeps the cooling water for the Cook County Jail's air conditioning system clean and free from particulate 24 hours a day for the entire season. This "package' concept made it easy for the customer to install with a minimum of fuss and downtime. Inlet water piping was flanged to the pump suction valve, outlet water piped away from the filter discharge and 3" PVC piping connected from the rinse water valve to drain. The only electrical connection required was three-phase power to the pump moter starter.
The pump is driven by a 25hp motor and supplies 400gpm to the filter at about 52psi. The filter is a model VAF2004LP equipped with a 100 micron stainless steel fine screen. The motor is controlled by a fused disconnect magnetic starter that also contains a control power transformer which supplies 120vac to the model VF4AC filter controller.
The filter flushes automatically whenever the differential pressure across the fine screen rises to 8 psid. The filter controller initiates and controls the flush cycle as well as monitors and displays the filters's operating mode, counts total backwash cycles and the time since the last flush.
