The U.S. Air Force Academy located in Colorado Springs, awarded a turnkey contract to York International to supply a new chiller system to it's Hospital. To insure clean cooling water in the system, York teamed up with Valve & Filter Corp.
The problem, typical of cooling towers used on air conditioning systems, was rapid buildup of airborne dirt, cottonwood lint and algae causing tube fouling in the heat exchanger. Debris greatly reduces the efficiency which results in excessive down time, high maintenance costs and high energy costs.
VAF supplied the 8" Filter, Controller, Manifold, skid support and automatic Bypass Valve. The valve opens automatically in the event of a filter malfunction. The bypass valve can also be opened for filter maintenance without stopping flow to the cooling tower.
Manufactured and assembled at Valve and Filter's plant in Denver, Colorado, providing a complete filter system simplified the entire process for both the customer and York International.
Installation was a snap. The customer had only to bring inlet/outlet piping to the system and run a 3" pipe to drain. The system includes isolation valves so the filter can be taken off line for maintenance.
A 100 micron high capacity stainless steel screen is installed in the filter. Flushing frequency was quite high initially, but as the filter cleaned the system's towers and piping, the time between flushes increased.
Valve & Filter specializes in design and fabrication of custom filter systems built to exact customer requirements. Filters are built to ASME Code specifications and range in size from 100gpm to 5000gpm and larger.
